dublish (Æthelmyr): OK!
ElectricCaveman: I suppose you all want xp for the last encounter?
Matt (Avaril the Average): NO!
Matt (Avaril the Average): Level 1 campaign ONLY!
Matt (Avaril the Average): We’re in it for the challenge.
dublish (Æthelmyr): I want xp for all encounters, past present and future.
Campaign saved.
Keah (Eilir): i want xp!
Awarding 4800 XP to the Party
[800 XP] -> Eilir
[800 XP] -> Xenia
[800 XP] -> Æthelmyr
[800 XP] -> Denzil
[800 XP] -> Bo-Taar
[800 XP] -> Avaril the Average
ElectricCaveman: Just 513 more!
Keah (Eilir): less than 600xp away!
ElectricCaveman: (POLL) Begin?
Matt (Avaril the Average): Where’s the lag?
Matt (Avaril the Average): It’s weird an unnatural…
ElectricCaveman: Last time I got ahead of myself. I wasn’t supposed to bring up the encounter I did at the end of the last session until after THIS session.
Keah (Eilir): i maded you an insect people token. >.>
Campaign saved.
dublish (Æthelmyr): So.
Matt (Avaril the Average): We missed plot?
ElectricCaveman: It’s not a big deal, but we’re not to that point yet.
ElectricCaveman: And the new token’s not showing up. Oh well.
Keah (Eilir): you probably have to restart the program. but now you have one.
Keah (Eilir): i can do that with any picture from the monster manual or others you find online, btw. just let me know.
ElectricCaveman: So, where were we…
Keah (Eilir): we fought the freaky scientist lady’s abominations. two of them.
dublish (Æthelmyr): Avaril made Eilir smell.
Campaign saved.
Keah (Eilir): because matt can’t read.
DM: You’re continuing on your way through the desert. The sun is coming up, and it is nearing the time to stop and set up the camp for the day, when two other Thri-Kreen rush up and begin to converse rapidly with Ptek-chak.
DM: As soon as they are done, they rush away again. Ptek-chak comes to you and begins to explain what is occuring.
Ptek-chak: Those were some of our scouts. They say that creatures they do not know have infested the oasis where we need to stop.
Matt (Avaril the Average): So what if I can’t read? Society has a fucking bias against us illiterates and as soon as we figure out the instructions to these fucking explosives you’re all going down!
Ptek-chak: They believe that they are from the plains in the north. It is their hope that you can tell them what they are.
Eilir: Did they describe them at all?
Avaril the Average: Do you intend us to talk to them or do you want us to just kill them?
Avaril the Average: Because we can do either.
Avaril the Average: We’re multitalented.
Ptek-chak: They want to take one or two of you to see.
Æthelmyr: I’ll go.
Campaign saved.
Eilir: I will as well.
Avaril the Average: I’ll take a nap.
Eilir: Unless they’re animals… then maybe we should send Xenia.
Xenia: I can tag along as well, as long as they don’t mind a 3rd
Æthelmyr: Well, let’s be off then.
Avaril the Average: Let’s just go all of us then? Sheesh.
Avaril the Average lies down.
Ptek-chak: The scouting party should be small, but three of you should not be too many. They will meet you at the front of the caravan soon.
Campaign saved.
Eilir: to the front of the caravan!
You pick your way to the head of the column. You wait there only briefly before a Thri-kreen comes to you and motions for you to follow him.
Æthelmyr follows.
The three of you follow the scout as he darts through the dunes. After several minutes, he leads you cautiously up the side of the largest dune in the area.
Keah (Eilir): i’m half hoping they’re cows or something.
He has you peer over its peak, and beyond it you see the largest oasis you’ve seen since the Shrine. The land and plants around it have been torn apart, and thousands of goblins cover the site.
Campaign saved.
Eilir: Ugh… wonderful…
DM: Make knowledge checks?
Eilir -> [SKILL] Knowledge (Arcana) [MOD:INT] [1d20+8 = 17]
Æthelmyr -> [SKILL] Knowledge (nature) [MOD:INT] [1d20+8 = 11]
Æthelmyr -> [SKILL] Knowledge (arcana) [MOD:INT] [1d20+9 = 27]
Xenia -> [SKILL] Knowledge (Nature) [MOD:INT] [1d20+1 = 7]
Xenia -> [SKILL] Knowledge (Arcane) [MOD:INT] [1d20+1 = 10]
Keah (Eilir): good job, sam.
Sam (Xenia): yeah
Keah (Eilir): you should put some ranks in knowledge nature.
Sam (Xenia): sure glad i came along
Keah (Eilir): lol
DM: Local would be much more appropriate than arcane for humanoids.
Eilir -> [ABILITY] Intelligence check [1d20+2 = 4]
Æthelmyr -> [SKILL] Knowledge (local) [MOD:INT] [1d20+9 = 12]
dublish (Æthelmyr): Ugh.
Keah (Eilir): oh yeah. if arcana tells me anything, +5 to my check. forgot to add that in.
Campaign saved.
DM: It is hard to make out details from this far away, but it looks to be an entire goblin tribe has overtaken the oasis, from the youngest child to most aged elder. Among them you spy a group of Bugbears, and a pack of wolves and even some Worgs, amongst more conventional livestock.
DM: They have put up shabby, but thorough, barricades of wood and sand to fortify their position, along with trenches. Goblins patrol all around the perimeter.
Eilir: Well this is lovely.
Keah (Eilir): Do the thri-kreen with us understand common at all?
DM: You don’t think so. It has so far just communicated with gestures.
Eilir: Then I gesture we should head back.
Keah (Eilir): brb
DM: You creep back down the dune and wind your way back to the rest of the Thri-kreen.
Keah (Eilir): back
Eilir: I report what we saw to Ptek-chak.
Campaign saved.
Æthelmyr: I have absolutely no idea how we’re going to fix this.
DM: Ptek-chak states some significant concern, and asks you to explain the situation to their council.
Eilir: Of course.
dublish (Æthelmyr): How many Thri-kreen are in this caravan?
DM: He takes you to a meeting of the most senior members of the Thri-kreen tribe. He translates for you as you outline what you know of goblins, and as you and the Thri-kreen scouts describe the fortifications the Goblins have put together.
Campaign saved.
DM: There are about 500-600 Thri-kreen, including the young and elderly.
Keah (Eilir): And there are a thousand or so goblins?
DM: More like a couple thousand. You’re probably outnumbered by 4 or 5 to 1.
Keah (Eilir): lovely.
Æthelmyr: I don’t think fighting is an option.
Æthelmyr: Unless we can poison like all of them first.
Eilir: I don’t know if we can diplomicise our way around this like we did with those kobolds.
Ptek-chak: If they prove peaceful, that is well. If not, we must drive them off by force.
Ptek-chak: Even if we did not need to resupply ourselves, we cannot allow any one group to refuse such an important oasis to others. In the desert, such resources are too important for one group to control.
Ptek-chak: Even the most vile desert-dwellers acknowledge this necessity.
Denzil: Anyone speak Goblin?
Æthelmyr: Not me.
Xenia: Well, maybe if we explain that to the goblins, they will cooperate?
Xenia: me either. does that ring cover Goblin?
Eilir: I don’t think so…
Campaign saved.
Eilir: I guess we can see if they speak Common.
Avaril the Average: I speak goblin. It’s spoken with an axe killing all of them.
Æthelmyr: OK, so who wants to try negotiating?
Avaril the Average: Botaar’s fluent as well.
Avaril the Average: I vote he be our party lead.
Eilir: You do realise we are HIGHLY outnumbered, right?
Sam (Xenia): who’s got the best charisma?
Eilir: Not to mention they have their standard cavalry.
Keah (Eilir): looks like xenia and aethelmyr are tied at 14.
Avaril the Average: Botaar counts for about 800 of them.
Xenia: We owe it to the goblins to give them a chance to leave the oasis themselves. They are new to the desert, maybe they just don’t get it.
Xenia: Plus what Eilir said about the numbers.
Eilir: I agree with Xenia. We’ll try to talk to them first.
Bo-Taar: I agree.
Avaril the Average: Of course you agree with each other. You’re sisters. You’re the same person.
Eilir: Æthelmyr, you can cast Comprehend Languages, right? That would be handy to understand anything they might say.
Campaign saved.
Æthelmyr: Sure thing.
Æthelmyr: Xenia, I could use a quick heal if you have any.
Æthelmyr: And if we think this could go bad.
Eilir: As for how we’ll speak to them if they don’t have someone who speaks one of our langauges…
Æthelmyr: I mean, if it’s not going to go bad then I don’t really need to be healed.
Eilir: Always best to prepare for the worst.
Xenia: well, I can heal you, no trouble. But that doesnt mean it will go bad.
Xenia -> [HEAL] Cure Light Wounds [1d8+3 = 10]
Heal [10] -> [to Æthelmyr]
Xenia: Ptek chak, do your people have a traditional way of approaching hostile groups to parley?
Avaril the Average: Sword in hand, hopefully.
Bo-Taar: White flag of truce maybe?
Ptek-chak: We do not go with arms, but my people do not need weapons. There are traditions in the desert, but it would perhaps be best to use yours. They will know your race, not mine.
Campaign saved.
Æthelmyr: White flag then.
Æthelmyr -> [SKILL] Craft [1d20+5 = 12]
Æthelmyr attempts to rig a makeshift flag of truce.
DM: You find an old, heavy piece of cloth that is almost as yellow as white, but it is the best you can do in the conditions.
Keah (Eilir): oh, htat’ll confuse them. XD
Æthelmyr: OK, let’s go.
You go with a few of the council members who speak Common to approach the Goblin encampment.
Campaign saved.
As you enter their view, the Goblins begin to jabber away in their native tongue, quite loudly. Before you can do anything, a row of spearmen position themselves between you and their wall, and archers are scrambling for position.
Æthelmyr -> [CAST] Comprehend Languages
Æthelmyr waves her flag at them.
DM: The Goblins are yelling about defending the wall and getting various people. The spearmen stay with their weapons readied, but no one makes any more aggressive motion than that.
Campaign saved.
Æthelmyr: Anyone speak Common?
Æthelmyr: Any of you goblins, I mean?
DM: After much hullabaloo, a group of Goblins make their way out through a small gap in the fortifications. Their are more heavily armored and adorned than these perimeter guards. One of them, wearing a large holy symbol around his neck, begins to speak.
Goblin Spokesman: Outsiders are not welcome in the New Realm of Maglisenif. Leave now and we will honor your flag and leave you unharmed.
Campaign saved.
Æthelmyr (whispering): Maglisenif? Ring a bell for anyone?
Eilir (whisper): Nope.
Xenia shakes her head no.
Æthelmyr -> [SKILL] Knowledge (religion) [MOD:INT] [1d20+8 = 17]
dublish (Æthelmyr): What’s that holy symbol?
Xenia -> [SKILL] Knowledge (Religion) [MOD:INT] [1d20+1 = 8]
DM: Maglubiyet, patron of Goblins
Eilir: You violate the law of the desert by refusing others access to this oasis.
Æthelmyr (whispering): There’s a lot of them, maybe being so blunt is a bad idea.
Goblin Spokesman: Your ways are not the concern of Maglisenif. Maglubiyet granted us this place, and so it is ours.
Æthelmyr: Who or what is Maglisenif?
Xenia: According to our esteemed friends, even between people who would normally wage war amongt each other, the sanctity of the oasis is upheld, as something that cannot be owned by one group.
Goblin Spokesman: Maglisenif, Blessed of Maglubiyet, is the lord of this new and sacred realm for Goblinkind. Depart this place now, and do not tempt his retribution.
Campaign saved.
Æthelmyr (whispering): I don’t think diplomacy is going to cut it here.
Xenia: its so hard to reason with religious people.
Xenia says with a strait face
Keah (Eilir): i love xenia’s deadpan so much.
David (Bo-Taar): so.. gunna need a game plan…..
Xenia looks at the cricket people who came along with questions in her eyes
Eilir: It seems they’re not going to budge on this. But we should let the council decide what to do next, since their people will be most impacted.
Campaign saved.
Thri-kreen Leader: We cannot allow these creatures to remain here. If we must fight, than we fight.
Eilir: Then we should head back and form a battleplan.
Æthelmyr: Alright.
Avaril the Average: You fight. Clearly I’m no use in a martial situation so I’ll just drink my whiskey and bless you all.
Æthelmyr: But this is your chance to kill lots and lots of things!
Æthelmyr: With magic!
Campaign saved.
Avaril the Average: We’re outnumbered. I believe Xenia and Eilir said it best.
Avaril the Average: They said, "We’re outnumbered."
Xenia: Perhaps the Thri-kreen have allies in the area that we could ride to alert? It is int eh interests of the whole desert to drive these goblins away.
User ‘Keah’ has gone AFK.
Sam (Xenia): cue dramatic round-up-the-allies montage?
Campaign saved.
David (Bo-Taar): and a-team music
DM: The Thri-kreen return to their council. They are confident in their skills and believe that this is a fight that they can win. They decide to rest and prepare, and strike at dusk. Although you have impressed them, they ask you to stay back, since you are not accustomed to their fighting style. Ptek-chak will be with you, and you will be among the guards for the tribe’s supplies and those who cannot fight.
Keah (Eilir): oh good. i didn’t want to do a siege. XD
Campaign saved.
Æthelmyr: So we wait?
Avaril the Average -> Resting.
Eilir: Yes.
Æthelmyr: Isn’t there anything we can do to help?
Eilir -> Resting.
Æthelmyr -> Resting.
Avaril the Average: So we’re not fighting…
Denzil -> Resting.
Xenia -> Resting.
Eilir: We will if they move to attack the supplies and non-combatants.
Xenia: We’re guarding the children, elderly, and supplies.
Bo-Taar -> Resting.
Avaril the Average: Ugh.
Xenia: An important job.
Avaril the Average: Wonderful.
Avaril the Average: Babysitting.
Eilir: Pretty much.
Eilir: But the fact that they trust us with this job is an honour. They could’ve just told us to stay out of it completely.
Avaril the Average: An honor.
Avaril the Average: To sit here and "enjoy" the company of their old and weak.
Avaril the Average: Honor be damned.
Xenia: Oh, I assure you, Avaril, no one is enjoying your company.
Campaign saved.
DM: You and the Thri-kreen spend the day gathering the caravan close together, and out of sight of the Goblin camp, then resting and preparing for the upcoming battle.
DM: As finally the time for battle nears, groups of Thri-kreen begin to make their way out of the camp to stage the assault. As the last of them are leaving, Ptek-chak suggests that you should go up a dune and watch the initial attack. He is obviously proud of his people
DM: ’s fighting skills.
Eilir happily goes up to watch.
Xenia follows along.
Campaign saved.
Bo-Taar: This should be a sight to see
Avaril the Average: Sure. I love seeing things die.
You lie on the sand at the top of the hill with Ptek-chak, peering over the lip of the dune at the Goblin settlement. Large groups of armed goblins are massed around the fortifications, especially at the gap that passes for a gate. You wait there for a few tense minutes, then suddenly the fight begins.
Groups of Thri-kreen dash out of the gaps between dunes towards the wall, fast as wild horses, with their signature crystal poleaxes glinting in the dusky light. Before the Goblins can reoganize, they have all found their way between different squads of Goblins to the walls, which they leap clean over on their powerful insectile legs.
Campaign saved.
Avaril the Average: And we’re missing all of this. We’re stuck back here…
Surprised be the suddenness of the attack, and by the ineffectiveness of their fortifications, the Goblins scramble to recover. As they all try to rush inside, more Thri-kreen dash into the battle. The outflanked Goblins take losses, but quickly stabilize with their superior numbers. The Thri-kreen never stay in one place long, though, outrunning the Goblins wherever they organize or leaping over the fortifications, using the walls against the small Goblins who built them.
Eilir: But we wouldn’t get to watch it like this if we were in the thick of it. This is fascinating!
User ‘Keah’ has gone AFK.
Æthelmyr: Anybody have a long range spell they can cast?
Avaril the Average: Fascinating be damned.
Avaril the Average: This is dull.
Avaril the Average: I would rather be killing them with my own hands.
Campaign saved.
Avaril the Average: Relatively speaking.
The battle quickly settles in to a series of brief skirmishes flashing up all around the fortifications, with Goblins packing in defensively and Mantis-folk striking wherever they find an opening, then dashing away again. The Goblins’ numbers are matched by the Thri-kreen’s speed, tough carapices, and exotic weapons. Melees dominate the battlefield, but archery and spell-slinging are spread throughout.
Æthelmyr: If we only had a bard.
Xenia gazes at the battle, and the crystal poleaxes, with wonder.
Xenia -> [SKILL] Spot [1d20+4 = 8]
Avaril the Average -> [SKILL] Spot [1d20+7 = 25]
Bo-Taar -> [SKILL] Spot [1d20+2 = 6]
Eilir -> [SKILL] Spot [1d20+1 = 9]
Æthelmyr -> [SKILL] Spot [1d20+9 = 17]
Denzil -> [SKILL] Spot [1d20+9 = 12]
Matt (Avaril the Average): Go me.
Campaign saved.
DM: As Avaril lounges around being bored, he notices a group of Goblin archers come over a dune a ways off to your right.
Eilir: And you said we wouldn’t get to do anything.

Matt (Avaril the Average): So… Init?
Avaril the Average: Yes, well we were TASKED with doing nothing.
Æthelmyr -> [INIT] [1d20+4 = 5]
dublish (Æthelmyr): I am distracted.
Eilir -> [INIT] [1d20+2 = 3]
Denzil -> [INIT] [1d20+4 = 19]
Campaign saved.
Bo-Taar -> [INIT] [1d20+2 = 13]
Xenia -> [INIT] [1d20+1 = 3]
Avaril the Average -> [INIT] [1d20+2 = 5]
Matt (Avaril the Average): We are shit at inits…
Keah (Eilir): generic combat map!
Eilir: denzil’s not
Keah (Denzil): you can spend pp to add 10 to your init roll.
Matt (Avaril the Average): I’m not about to buff my init.
DM: When you spot them, the Goblins are a several hundred feet away, a couple dunes over.
Keah (Denzil): kyle could. he’s got the points to burn.
Campaign saved.
Matt (Avaril the Average): So we have plenty of time to hide. Good.
dublish (Æthelmyr): Denzil’s turn?
ElectricCaveman: You’re going to have to spend a couple rounds just getting there. How do we want to do that?
David (Bo-Taar): can we wait and hide and ambush?
Keah (Denzil): I was gonna wait for them to come to us, unless we’re too close to the supplies. Why waste the energy travelling the sands?
[ROUND 1]
[TURN] Denzil
Matt (Avaril the Average): Yeah, they shoud totally come here. Because they’re stupid and dumb and ugly.
Keah (Denzil): we’re still lying on the dune, right?
DM: yes
Keah (Denzil): have the goblins spotted us? or can i tell?
DM: or whatever you were doing there
DM: you can’t tell
Denzil: alright. then I’m gonna stand up and ready my bow.
[TURN] Goblin 15
Campaign saved.
David (Bo-Taar): wonder what their range is with their bows?
dublish (Æthelmyr): 100 feet?
Keah (Denzil): longbow is 100ft. i don’t know if there are any bows longer than that.
Keah (Denzil): but range just means that for each increment you take a -1 penalty, up to -10. so… a longbow can technically shoot 1000ft. but it’s REALLY not accurate.
Keah (Denzil): we just need to get them close enough to get bo-taar in there, and the numbers shouldn’t be a problem.
dublish (Æthelmyr): You should use trueshot and shoot them now.
DM: The Goblins stop where they are, and fire a volley of arrows off at your group.
DM: Arrow Volley [1d20+6 = 22]
Keah (Denzil): +6? wow.
DM: Everyone but Ptek-chak and Avaril, make Ref saves.
Denzil -> [SAVE] Reflex [1d20+8 = 14]
Eilir -> [SAVE] Reflex [1d20+4 = 12]
Bo-Taar -> [SAVE] Reflex [1d20+3 = 9]
Æthelmyr -> [SAVE] Reflex [1d20+5 = 11]
DM: [DAMAGE (R)] Shortbow [TYPE: piercing(x3)] [1d4 = 2]
Damage [2] -> [to Bo-Taar]
DM: [DAMAGE (R)] Shortbow [TYPE: piercing(x3)] [1d4 = 3]
Damage [3] -> [to Denzil]
DM: [DAMAGE (R)] Shortbow [TYPE: piercing(x3)] [1d4 = 2]
Damage [2] -> [to Eilir]
Campaign saved.
DM: [DAMAGE (R)] Shortbow [TYPE: piercing(x3)] [1d4 = 4]
Damage [4] -> [to Æthelmyr]
Keah (Denzil): well ouch.
Xenia -> [SAVE] Reflex [1d20+2 = 18]
Bo-Taar: i think they spotted us
Keah (Denzil): how far away are they? or rather, exactly how many hundred feet is "several"?
DM: Xenia side-steps the arrows.
Denzil: That was the idea, but it didn’t work out the way I’d hoped…
Æthelmyr: Charge!
Æthelmyr: Also, spread out.
Æthelmyr: That would be a good thing to do.
David (Bo-Taar): how big is a volley?
David (Bo-Taar): in diameter i guess
ElectricCaveman: Oh, let’s call it 200’. Nice, easy number.
Keah (Eilir): 200 is good. i can deal with that.
DM: This hit a 3×3 square area.
Keah (Eilir): there are 9 goblins. i imagine the volley size changes depending on how many creatures are shooting.
[TURN] Bo-Taar
David (Bo-Taar): i run towards the goblins full speed. 60’ right?
Keah (Eilir): pincer manoeuvre?
Keah (Eilir): running is 3x speed in a straight line, unless terrain is an issue.
Keah (Eilir): running is an actual thing.
David (Bo-Taar): so sand is an issue?
David (Bo-Taar): i just want to get to smash goblins ASAP
DM: You can run 3x speed if you make a balance check because of the loose sand.
Campaign saved.
Bo-Taar -> [SKILL] Balance [1d20-1 = 9]
Keah (Eilir): you are not very good at balancing…
DM: You fail your balance check.
David (Bo-Taar): go figure
David (Bo-Taar): so i just get 2x for double move then?
Keah (Eilir): shouldn’t you be good at balancing? or only in the mountains?
Bo-Taar: on generic map i cant see goblins
DM: You try to take off running, but lose your footing in the soft ground. You don’t fall on your face, but it takes your move action to stabilize yourself.
ElectricCaveman: The goblins are further away than the map shows right now.
ElectricCaveman: I was going to add them when you got closer, but I can make the map bigger, I suppose, if people want.
Keah (Denzil): that would be nice.
Keah (Denzil): lolgrid
Campaign saved.
Campaign saved.
Matt (Avaril the Average): Whose turn is it and what are we doing?
[TURN] Ptek-chak
ElectricCaveman: It’s Bo-taar’s second action, and we’re adjusting the map.
David (Bo-Taar): sam told me i was done =(
Sam (Xenia): im sorry im sorry
DM: No, you just used one action slipping in the sand. You can still move once.
David (Bo-Taar): ah i still want to move as far as i can
David (Bo-Taar): so 30’?
DM: yep
Campaign saved.
[TURN] Æthelmyr
Keah (Eilir): whatcha gonna do, kyle?
dublish (Æthelmyr): I run 60 ft and that’s it.
[TURN] Avaril the Average
Avaril the Average: I move… 60 I guess…
[TURN] Eilir
Eilir: and i’m gonna try to shoot one.
Eilir -> [ATTACK (M)] Longsword [CRIT 19] [1d20+8 = 10]
Attack [10] -> [at Goblin 2] [MISS]
Keah (Eilir): and i forgot to add my penalty but watever.
[TURN] Xenia
Xenia: I move 30’ and cast Bless.
Xenia -> [CAST] Bless
Campaign saved.
Sam (Xenia): I don’t have an effect I can put on people. but everyone 50’ away from me or closer gets +1 to attack
[ROUND 2]
[TURN] Denzil
Keah (Eilir): and some other stuff.
Sam (Xenia): saves v fear
Keah (Eilir): could dnezil shoot over people’s heads? or is everyone in the way?
Keah (Denzil): he hasn’t moved from the dune.
DM: He could.
Denzil -> [ATTACK (R)] +1 Elvencraft Composite Longbow (-1) [1d20+8 = 24]
Attack [24] -> [at Goblin 2] [HIT]
Denzil -> [DAMAGE (R)] +1 Elvencraft Composite Longbow [TYPE: piercing,magic(x3)] [1d8+2 = 9]
Damage [9] -> [to Goblin 2] [DYING]
Keah (Denzil): nice.
[TURN] Goblin 15
Keah (Denzil): if he were to use rapid shot, he could choose multiple targets, yes? that’s a full attack thing, right?
DM: yes
Campaign saved.
Keah (Denzil): okay cool.
DM: [ATTACK (R)] Shortbow [1d20+3 = 13]
Attack [13] -> [at Ptek-chak] [MISS]
